Your Community Credit Union hosted a lemonade stand on Saturday September 16th. We raised $3,917.60 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in memory of our beloved Wesley Shafer! Like Alex, our Wesley (son of employee, Jo Ellen Shafer) battled neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system. Wesley was always concerned about others and would be happy we are doing this in his memory!
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by Alexandra “Alex” Scott who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma just before her first birthday. At the age of 4, Alex decided that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help other children like her. The foundation has raised more than $150 million since Alex’s first lemonade stand and funded over 800 research projects across North America looking for better treatment and cures for childhood cancer!
Every year, an estimated 250,000 new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 worldwide. That’s about 700 new kids affected every day. And yet, childhood cancer is vastly and consistently underfunded. Less than 4% of the federal government’s total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year.
Kids with cancer don’t have time to wait. You can help us make a difference!
- A donation of $50 will fund one hour of research.
- A gift of $400 will fund one day of research.
- A generous gift of $8000 will pay for an entire month.
Please give! If you weren’t able to make it out to the event, donate in person at any branch location or give online. You have until Wednesday, September 20 to donate!
